Emma Calin quickly brings you into the life of the heroine, Lyn, a factory worker. Middle aged and married to a lorry driver she's looking for something that is missing from her marriage. Lyn finds what she's looking for but is she prepared to suffer the consequences of her actions?
Emma's powerful voice makes you empathize with Lyn and root for her achieving what she wants in life. My only complaint would be that the story is too short.
I enjoyed reading your book it was hard to put it down. Some of the things reminded me about my younger days.
Love it love it love it...no other way ti explain it
With a title like Love In A Hopeless Place, author Calin sets the scene before you begin reading. You will not be disappointed. Gritty, urban and with an inherent `seediness'; there is some powerful dialogue and the author does a superb job of tapping into the inner core of some pretty raw emotion. There is a touch of poignancy too, for a reality that does exist for some, but for many goes unseen. The emotional rollercoaster Lyn is on, wanting something she feels she isn't meant to have, something thrilling yet elicit, comes through very strongly. Is she merely hungry for attention or is it love? Life isn't always pretty...
In the novelette "Love in a Hopeless Place," Lyn is an ordinary person working in a blue-collar job. Author Emma Calin skilfully draws the reader into the personal life of this warehouse worker, sharing with us Lyn's innermost emotions and desires. She takes us on a journey through a series of life-changing events as they are experienced by our main character. The detailed delivery of Lyn's intimate thoughts and feelings is so precise that we easily identify with her and are concerned for her future and her well-being. We worry for Lyn, smile and cry for her, and we applaud her courage in taking a step to find happiness after years of self-sacrifice and denial. I thoroughly enjoyed "Love in a Hopeless Place" and highly recommend this excellent novelette to other readers.
The story was okay. Just not one I would have read other than the author sent me a copy to read. Lyn and Suzy work together. The kiss. Lyn is married. Suzy tells husband. Then every thing hits the fan and there is a real mess.
If one is in a cold existence simply acquiring years, what would it take to reignite a fire that would bring light and warmth back into one's life? Ms Calin offer readers a scenario that would strike such a spark. It is a moving story with a touching surprise.
